Etch Tom Dixon

Born in Sfax, Tunisia, in 1959, to a French mother and English father, Tom Dixon moved to Great Britain at the age of four years. He entered "Chelsea Art School" for six months and joined a disco-punk band called Funkapolitan as a bassist.

His artistic career began when he discovered pleasure in welding while repairing damaged motorcycle frames, after having been forced to leave his band because he broke his leg in a motorcycle accident. Twenty years later, in 2002, became known as a designer, Tom Dixon in partnership with David Begg founded his own manufacturing company. The company develops its own collections of design lighting and contemporary furniture. Recognized in the whole world for his creations, Tom Dixon works successively with many furniture manufacturers. He was awarded an OBE for services to British Design in 2000.
